Mayne, Joseph

Associate Professor Emeritus


Dr. Mayne holds a B.A. from Hope College, an M.A. from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology before joining the Loyola faculty in 1972. Dr. Mayne has worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and the Argonne National Laboratory. He has consulted for many firms, including the Upjohn Company, the FMC Corporation, and Commonwealth Edison. More recently he served as a statistical consultant for Sargent and Lundy Consulting Engineers. His major research interests have been in ring theory, non-associative algebras, and computer algorithms. Dr. Mayne was the Conductor of the Loyola Chamber Orchestra from 1977 to 2004 and was the chair of Loyola's Faculty Council Research Committee. He has served as Graduate Program Director of Computer Science and as Graduate Program Director of Mathematics. Dr. Mayne chaired the department from 1998 to 2004.
