Graduate Awards

Loyola awards assistantships and fellowships only to full-time students in the PhD program.

Assistantships

Assistantships are awarded only to full-time students (taking 9 credit hours each semester), and provide an academic year stipend of $28,000. Additionally, graduate assistants receive a tuition fellowship covering coursework required for degree completion. Graduate assistants are assigned relevant professional work for no more than 20 hours per week.

Fellowships

A number of fellowships, including dissertation and teaching fellowships, are available to Ph.D. students through the Graduate School. The fellowships provide a stipend and full tuition. Please visit the Graduate School's Financial Assistance and Funding site for more information. 

Other Sources

Many graduate students in the Department have found positions and been awarded assistantships by working for the Graduate School, the University Libraries, and elsewhere in the University.

Students who are interested in Urban Politics may apply for a fellowship from the Center for Urban Research and Learning. For more information, visit their website at /curl/graduatefellowships.

The Graduate School also offers travel grants of up to $750 for travel expenses related to conference presentations and research.

The State of Illinois provides fellowships for minority graduate students at both the MA and PhD levels. For more information, please visit the Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois home page at .
